2022 Municipal Election

2022 is a Municipal Election year that will take place on Wednesday, October 26, 2022. Below is some general information if you are considering running for office and information on voter eligibility.

• A Canadian citizen;
• At least 18 years of age on Election Day;
• A resident of Manitoba;
• A qualified voter of the municipality (has either resided or owned property in the municipality for at least 6 months before Election Day);
• Not subject to disqualification under the Municipal Act or any other Act.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that I will be receiving candidate registrations:

For the office of Head of Council:      Between May 1, 2022 and September 20, 2022 

For the office of Councillor:                Between June 30, 2022 and September 20, 2022 

At the Rural Municipality of Alexander office, 1 Bouvier Trail, St Georges, Manitoba during the regular hours of business.

All prospective candidates must register with the SEO during the registration period, before they begin their campaign. Once they are registered with the SEO, they can get constituents to sign their nomination papers.

Nomination papers will be accepted between September 14th and September 20th, 2022.

Voter Eligibility

21(1) A person is eligible to vote in an election or on a question if he or she is

(a) a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old on election day; and
(b) a resident of the local authority on election day, and has been so for at least the six months before election day.

22(2) If three or more non-resident persons qualify as registered owners of a parcel of land,

(a) no more than two of them are eligible to vote; and
(b) in order to be included on the voters list, each of those two persons must file with the senior election official the written consent of the number of persons who, together with the person to be included on the voters list, are a majority of the registered owners of the land.

The owners of a corporation or a company do not quality to vote in a municipal election as non-resident owners. Unless you are a resident of the municipality, your property must be registered in your name and not in the name of a corporation before you qualify to vote.

Advance Polls - Saturday, October 8, 2022
Election Day - Wednesday, October 26, 2022
Application to vote by sealed envelope:
By Mail or Email - correspondence must be received between the period of July 28th to October 23rd, 2022.
In-Person - between the period of September 28 to October 23rd, 2022. Application to vote by mail & notice of Advance Poll.
